Meet Lisa Steidinger
Welcome to my kitchen! I am a self-taught cook and baker. I am constantly intrigued by new cooking techniques, new flavors. and learning everything I can about different food cultures. I draw inspiration from the ever-growing collection of cookbooks which surround me, and the many food bloggers I admire.
The first question I get from everyone is how did I come up with the name for this site? Lilacs and Green Onions was borne out of a childhood memory from my grandmother's kitchen. I shared the full story in this article.
I grew up and currently live in central Illinois. At a young age my parents taught my siblings and I how to garden, harvest, and preserve the food that we consumed. I have so much appreciation for this knowledge as an adult. As a result, my style of cooking follows the seasons and largely consists of using fresh ingredients.
My intent for this blog is to share what I am cooking, but also to invite others into my kitchen to share their food memories with me. One of my favorite things is to learn what someone's personal comfort foods are, or what the food traditions are in their family. I couldn't be more excited to share this with you.
